Blu-Ray Disc Player: Excellent picture quality on Blu-ray and DVD; DVD upconversion up to 1080p; HDMI output. Right off the bat everyone in the room noticed the image quality from the Blu-Ray Disc Player S300, it's always comforting when the results right out of the box are at least on par with expectations, surpassing them is of course a nice bonus.

The SONY BDP-S300 Blu-Ray Disc Player is an important product, giving Blu-ray some much needed traction in the affordable player category. Combine that with recent news from rental powerhouse Blockbuster that it is expanding Blu-ray titles in its stores (at the expense of HD DVD in most cases), and the BDP-S300 looks like a no-brainer.

HQV Benchmark Results: The BDP-S300 Blu-Ray Disc Player scored very well with the standard definition HQV benchmark disc, it passed most of the tests with flying colors and was able to lock onto the 3:2 film cadence test faster than many other of the DVD and BD/HD players tested recently.

And the remote is a good one- it controls both the player and a television.
Unlike Sony's first-gen BDP-S1 (and Pioneer Elite's BDP-HD1) the BDP-S300 will play back CDs, either from its analog audio outputs or any of its digital audio outputs, including HDMI.

Once loaded and running, the BDP-S300 performed like a gold medalist. The best Blu-ray Discs looked sensational at either 1080p/60 or 1080p/24. And for those using 720p displays, or displays that will not accept 1080p inputs, the player also performed beautifully when set for either a 720p or 1080i output.

Summary: I bought this Blu-Ray player last July to watch movies and it has worked flawlessly for me from day 1. I am not a viewer who will use picture in picture (which this does not have) nor do I play any of the games which are on some of the discs. I wanted a Blu-Ray player which gives me full HD video and great sound. The audio sounds great on my surround sound system when I use it. Sometimes I just use the TV speakers and the audio is excellent. If you are interested in a Blu-Ray player with outstanding video and excellent sound this player is for you.

Strengths: Plays Blu-Ray Discs, upconverts standard DVDs. Full 1080p output. Good array of audio outputs.

Strengths: Great picture when playing Blu ray Disk. Connected all audio connections at once except Coax, and all worked automatically...Great sound.

While the Sony BDP-S300 is an entry level Blu-ray player, entry level doesn't necessarily mean cheap. You're getting a capable high definition video player. VD's is lackluster at best and it only decodes Dolby Digital Plus. If you already have a capable upconverting DVD player and don't care about the decoding of Dolby TrueHD and the myriad of high definition DTS formats, this may be the Blu-ray player for you.

Summary: Sony has finally come out their second generation Blu-ray player at half the original price of the original! The BDP-S300 looks like a bargain compared to their previous BDP-S1 model.

Besides the cost benefit, you get more with this player. Unlike the previous model the S300 can play CDs in addition to DVDs. In addition, it seems to load slightly faster than the previous model.

All in all, the BDP-S300 delivers what it promises.

The new BDP-S300 model can output 1920 x 1080p (progressive) high-definition video, currently the highest resolution high-definition signal available through an HDMI™ connection. The player supports various video formats, including MPEG2, MPEG4-AVC and VC1.

For those who own an HDTV set without HDMI, an analog component output for 1080i (interlaced) is available as well.

The new BD player is compatible with most standard DVDs and has the added feature of 1080p upscaling through HDMI to 1080p capable HDTVs, improving the picture performance of existing DVD libraries.

Watching PIRATES I and PIRATES II I found the picture striking and vivid with no artifacts. My receiver is a delivers 5.1 DD so I am unable to take advantage of the uncompressed PCM codec. However, the Dolby digital audio track was quite impressive. All things considered, this an excellent player at a very good price.

This is an excellent BD Player for under $500! The picture quality is awesome!
Excellent upscaler quality for DVD movies

Below is mentioned that it can't be made region free. Only partially true. A California company already sells this model in a Multiregion (multi-region) version. It can play any Region A and B Blu-Ray Disc movie and display it on any TV that has HDMI input, regardless of video standard (PAL-SECAM-NTSC etc.)

This is a unit that we would buy for ourselves if it weren't for the fact that we couldn't make it region free, because we have a huge DVD collection with movies from regions 1 and 4. If you are going to play only region-free ("region 0") or region 1 discs then this unit is a great pick, especially because its cost/benefit ratio: great price and excellent image quality for DVDs - if the relative slowness of this unit doesn't bother you.

I haven't gone through all the bells and whistles yet, but the picture quality just floored me. Even my wife who really doesn't get the whole 'high def thing' was greatly impressed. We watched Pirates/Caribbean 2 and couldn't believe the quality.

Pros: Excellent picture quality, inexpensive for a Blu-ray player, offers HDMI upscaling to 1080p

Anyone looking to experience the formidable pleasures of watching movies on Blu-ray Disc, and at a reasonable startup cost, is advised to check out Sony's BDP-S300.

Although high-definition TVs have been flying off the shelves recently, it is worthwhile noting that most of these people will still be watching mostly standard definition programmes on their shiny new TVs. Should you sit too close to a high-definition TV, all the imperfections inherent in compressed broadcast stations will be blown up on screen, destroying your viewing experience.

Positives:


- In the past LCDs have been crippled by average blacks. Sony KDL-32D3000 defies this tradition in this respect: the blacks and grey gradation are some of the best I've ever seen on a HDTV of this size.

- Again, another shortcoming of LCDs is motion blurring. Sony KDL-32D3000 solves this problem by incorporating its Motion Flow technology, which I must admit functions very competently in maintaining detail in fast action scenes.

- For a TV of this size, I'm impressed that Sony has included rather good picture processing in terms of noise reduction and deinterlacing. This will make standard definition image even better.

Bad Points:


- Because of the Wide Color Gamut (WCG) implemented on the Sony KDL-32D3000, the colours could look slightly over-saturated. However, unless you're a videophile who strives colour accuracy, this should not bother you at all.

- If you want to get the best possible picture from the Sony KDL-32D3000 , you'll need to get into the service menu to adjust the greyscale.

- The price tag is high compared to other models of a similar specification.

In conclusion, the Sony KDL-32D3000 delivers a solid standard definition and high definition picture quality, though is priced at a premium. Only you yourself can decide whether it's worth it.

The Sony Bravia KDL-46V2500 Is A High Quality LCD HDTV With Jaw Dropping Visuals

The 46" Sony Bravia KDL-46V2500 LCD HDTV is a great set just like the smaller 40" 40V2500. The picture is excellent out of the box but some recommend turning off the vivid setting and set it to neutral and then tweak the HDTV to perfection. The colors are incredible and breathtaking. Playing video games with the Xbox 360 or PS3 is beautiful and watching Blu-Ray movies in 1080p is just jaw dropping. There is a reason why Sonys cost more and the difference in quality is worth the difference in price.

The price for the Sony Bravia KDL-46V2500 LCD HDTV has dropped considerably as of this review so it can now compete against other brands if you're on a budget. If you're hesitant to pay for the more expensive and elegant XBR models, then the V-Series is the model to get. The XBR definitely looks better aesthetically, but performance wise you will not notice much difference unless you're an HDTV expert. The 46V2500 uses the same LCD panel as the XBR series.

Watching HD Sony Bravia KDL-46V2500 LCD HDTV set is amazing, but most programs have not made the leap to HD yet. However, standard display is not bad and watchable compared to other HDTVs where it is absolutely horrible to look at anything non-HD. This set should hold you over until you get HD programming or until most programs switch to 1080p.

There have been some complaints on "fogginess" or "clouds" when the TV is displaying dark scenes. Some people cannot stand it and it is a deal breaker for them, but some people can tolerate it and consider it only a minor annoyance that is outweighed by the stunning picture quality. This problem does not seem to be appearing on every KDL-46V2500 however because a lot of people haven't noticed the problem. It has also been reported that the fogginess has been fixed on models manufactured after December 6th 2007 so you should be fine if you buy a brand new one now, but double check to make sure.

The internal sound from the KDL-46V2500 is nice and clear and very good for a TV which is rare. The menu is also nice and intuitive and the remote control is okay, but may feel a little cheap. You'll most likely get a universal remote anyway. Who has time to juggle multiple remote controls?

If you plan to watch DVD's on the Bravia KDL-46V2500 LCD HDTV, I suggest you get an up-converting DVD player like Sony's DVP-NS77H/B 1080p Upscaling DVD Player with HDMI Output. The quality is so much better than regular DVD players and almost looks HD. I also suggest watching DVDs with widescreen format instead of fullscreen because the TV will distort and stretch the image and there are no settings around it.

Overall, the Sony Bravia KDL-46V2500 is a high quality LCD HDTV with jaw dropping visuals. Playing video games and watching movies will constantly wow you and your friends. If you're looking for a great LCD TV at the right price, this set may be it. You'll get Sony quality television with price that can compete with the Samsungs and Toshibas. I definitely recommend this.

Sony KDL-20S3000 - 20" Widescreen Bravia HD Ready LCD TV - Review

This is another great product from Sony and I'm very pleased with this one. The TV is ideal for a kitchen or bedroom (I have mine in the kitchen). When I buy a product I like to do lots a research and narrow down the possible products. Out of the HD TVs I had narrowed down a list of Phillips, Samsung and LG - all round the 20" size. I like to go down to a shop to view and listen to the TVs first before buying, and to me - the Sony looked and sounded the best.

I found that the Samsung was the smallest of my list of possible TVs and also looks very pretty, however as I found with the LG - the sound quality was poor with no decent bass. With the Phillips - I wasn't too impressed with the picture, so while I had to reach a little deeper in my pocket I decided to go for the Sony in the end as the sound and picture seemed much better than the rest - it really does look brilliant! This is a big purchase for me but I like to get something that I'm completely happy with so I'm glad I spent the little extra.

The picture quality is pretty awesome, but going from an old CRT style TV I'm going to notice the difference! The sound is even better than my old TV which I thought wouldn't be the case - so a pleasent suprise there.

If you are going to put the TV in a confined space, have a look on the manufacturers website and check the measurements. Be careful as sometimes they list two dimensions, one with a stand and one without.

I searched high and low on the net for the best price and at the time of writing Amazon is the cheapest. Delivery was great, I placed my order on Tuesday and the set arrived on Thursday at 9am, free delivery as well!

The 40" Sony Bravia KDL-40V2500 is an awesome LCD HDTV displaying 16:9 1080p at 1920x1080 resolution. Sony has hit the mark with the Bravia KDL-40V2500 especially with the lowered price to compete with other LCD HDTV companies like Samsung, Sharp, Panasonic, and Toshiba. The quality is top notch. The colors and contrast are near perfect and pictures even appear to jump out of this LCD HDTV more than other LCD TV's when compared side by side.

Watching non HD content is not a problem with the Sony Bravia KDL-40V2500. Even playing regular DVD's look almost HD with an upscaling or upconverting dvd player like the OPPO DV-980H or Sony's own DVP-NS77H. I heard you can use the remote from Sony's dvd player to operate the V2500 series. SD (or standard display) is also good and better than other LCD TV's and almost to the level of your old CRT tube tv set.

The remote control is not bad, but there have been some dissatisfaction with it from some owners saying that it feals cheap or clunky. You'll probably end up getting a universal remote anyway if you don't like the factory TV remote. Any negative thoughts caused by the remote are easily made up for with the excellent and simple menu. Going through the Bravia 40V2500's settings is a breeze. One great feature of this LCD HDTV that you should enjoy is the ability to label the inputs and skip the unused inputs. This should be included with every TV set.

There have been some reports on fogginess in dark scenes, but not many owners have seen it. Maybe messing around with the display or lowering the brightness will help if you see this in your own TV set. Also, if you see a white line above the screen, just raise the vertical display a little bit to make it disappear. You can also change the display area from "full pixel" to normal and that will get rid of the white line.

The Sony Bravia KDL-40V2500 LCD HDTV comes with two hdmi inputs. If you're buying hdmi cables, you don't need to get the expensive ones. You can buy hdmi cables for under $15-$20 and they work just as good as the ones that cost an arm and a leg. If you plan to buy the warranty for the Sony Bravia KDL-40V2500 LCD HDTV, you can get it cheaper straight from Sony instead of from Amazon.

Overall, the 40" Sony Bravia KDL-40V2500 LCD HDTV is an awesome television with stunning visuals that will drop jaws like when people went from b&w to color TV's. The refresh rate is not extremely fast as is expected from an LCD TV, but it shouldn't be a big impact on the viewing experience. The sound is as good as any LCD HDTV on the market if not better. I didn't cover the sound much, but it is definitely not weak and may surprise you with how good it sounds. Sony has put together a complete package in the Bravia KDL-40V2500 with great visuals and audio to deliver an immersive experience to the viewer. This LCD HDTV may be the best bang you can get for your buck.

The Samsung does have better blacks, but you can’t even tell. Samsung’s screen is a little reflective to give the picture a look of higher contrast, but the reflection can be annoying especially in a well lit room. The screen on the Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR4 1080p LCD HDTV has no glare at all and works well in a bright room. The backlight adjusts itself accordingly when in bright or dark rooms. The screen does not distract at all and will constantly amaze your family and friends with its awesome picture.

Once you receive the Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR4 1080p LCD HDTV, you should turn off the “vivid” setting and switch to something more comfortable to the eyes especially if you’re watching in standard definition. SD quality video will look bad if you don’t. You should also change the screen from “full” to “wide full” when watching SD to give SD content the best display possible. This will fill up the screen instead of having some blank areas on the left and right of the TV.

DVD’s also look good and sometimes even blu-ray-ish. That’s how good this TV is. The best way to watch movies of course is with a Blu-Ray movie. You can’t buy an HDTV like this and not get a Blu-Ray player or a Playstation 3 (comes with Blu-Ray). If your budget doesn’t allow you to get one yet, DVD is still outstanding with this TV, but you should get Blu-Ray eventually.

If you’re not planning to get a home theater sound system just yet, the built-in sound of the Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR4 1080p LCD HDTV is good enough. It’s better than most LCD TVs out there.

To go along with the beautiful picture that the Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR4 1080p LCD HDTV is capable of producing, the unit itself is beautiful with the floating glass frame. You can also change the bezel to a color that matches your home more if you want to. If you like the piano black finish of the V3000 or XBR3, you can buy the XBR5 model which exactly the same set as the XBR4 except for the piano black finish.

If you want the best looking set out there and price doesn’t matter, the Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR4 1080p LCD HDTV is the one to buy. You won’t regret it because this is as good as it gets for now. Amazon has the best prices around and if they lower the price in 30 days after your purchase, you can contact them and they’ll refund the difference. The Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR4 1080p LCD HDTV is pricey, but that’s because the quality is incomparable.

Review of Sony Bravia Kdl-46v3000 1080p LCD Hdtv

The Sony Bravia KDL-46V3000 46" 1080p LCD HDTV is an elegant looking set with its piano black frame. The black finish is reflective, but not annoyingly shiny like a mirror as long as you don’t put it directly in front of a light source. It’s a serious looking LCD HDTV with its black finish and anti-glare screen. Not only does it look nice aesthetically, but it looks awesome where it counts the most, the picture.

The picture, like the Sony Bravia V2500 models, looks amazing. No annoying glares will ruin your viewing experience and the fogging that hit some of the owners with the V2500 model is gone. If there are any, you must be unlucky. The Sony Bravia KDL-46V3000 1080p LCD HDTV has a 60 Hz refresh rate while the higher end models have 120 Hz so the motion blurring will not be as smooth as the more expensive sets. That doesn’t mean it’s blurry though. It’s still pretty smooth during fast action sequences and you probably won’t be able to tell anyway when playing HD content.

The Sony Bravia KDL-46V3000 1080p LCD HDTV up-scales 480i standard definition content with its Reality Creation Multi Function v1.0 technology and you can see that it truly helps make SD stuff less horrible than it otherwise should be. This basically means watching standard programming is good, but not at the level you’re used to when watching with a CRT, but also not as bad as many other LCD TVs.

The black and the contrast is good unlike what has been expected of LCDs. The colors are rich and the picture comes to life more so than other LCD HDTVs. Side by side with the Samsung or Sharp, the Sony looked better. In fact it can even compete with some of the plasma TVs out there. Just switch to normal mode and not use vivid mode and make some tweaks from there to your liking and the image will be near perfect. Try sharpening the image and increasing the black.

Configuring the settings in the Sony Bravia KDL-46V3000 1080p LCD HDTV is a breeze with the highly regarded XMB menu system that’s also in the PS3. Speaking of the PS3, watching blu-ray on the KDL-46V3000 is simply stunning. If you don’t have a PS3 or a Blu-Ray player, you need to get one if you’re getting an HDTV. HD-DVD is dead.

The Sony Bravia KDL-46V3000 1080p LCD HDTV does not have PIP or picture in picture, but it does have P&P or picture & picture. You can play video from two input sources at the same time, but only from HDMI, TV tuner, and video on the left side of the TV and component on the right. That means no watching HDMI & HDMI at the same time. It’s not a deal breaker since the picture quality is way up there.

Sound quality is good should you choose not to invest in a home theater surround sound system, but it does lack some oomph in the bass department. It’s much better than many LCD panels out there considering how small the piano black frame is.

I recommend the Sony Bravia KDL-46V3000 1080p LCD HDTV if you don’t want to spend a few extra Ben Franklins on the XBR4 and you don’t want the older, but still excellent KDL-46V2500. You can’t go wrong with this choice and it’s one of the best bangs for the buck.
